I have used PayPal for accepting payments for my eBay auctions. If you're a seller, they nickel-and-dime you to death, and since eBay bought them several years ago, you're pretty much forced to use them and not allowed to use anyone else, which I really hate.

Regarding Paypal only sucking from the point of view of a seller, there are in fact many cases where people might not want to use Paypal - among them is its freaking out about certain credit cards which other processors will take, the policies they enacted recently against some sites based on the content of sites, and so on. While I happen to use it primarily (and have been at the raw end a few times for doing so), I must always make an effort to include as many people as possible.

Recommendation: I use Pinnacle Processing.
Admittedly I get a discount because I sell through Brown Paper Tickets, but I haven't had a problem with them in any case, or ever any difficulty getting someone on the phone anytime during business hours. There is no touch-tone tree, just humans. Their website is pinnacleprocessinggroup dot com.

Well, Paypal sucks from the standpoint of a seller or someone who keeps a large amount of money in their Paypal account... largely because they tend to err insanely in favor of the buyer and/or suspecting fraud... and they take a completely unreasonable percentage.

But, from my experience only *buying* things, Paypal is awesome. I don't know why someone would be hesitant about buying (as opposed to selling) something with Paypal... other than maybe they are boycotting Paypal because Paypal sucks so much as a seller? I sometimes buy stuff from sellers that I suspect would otherwise be a little shady and I wouldn't want to give them my credit card, but I do definitely trust Paypal when it comes to fraud and security.
